God Strong Online Study - Week 3

Saturday, June 8, 2013

Once again I'm falling behind in blogger world, and that's due to interviews, and lots of homework and reading for summer classes. But, without further adieu, here is week 3 of the God Strong study! Don't forget to follow along in Sara Horn's book God Strong, and to get plugged in to your local Wives of Faith group for fellowship! OH! I almost forgot! Sara Horn's new book - My So-Called Life as a Proverbs 31 Wife, came out recently! Go get it at the bookstore! I am starting it tonight and I cannot wait - I've been highly anticipating it ever since I first heard a while ago :)

Week 3 - Super Military Wife Syndrome

Verses to savor - Proverbs 31:10-31, John 15:4-5

Reading Chapter 5 & 6 of GOD STRONG

Symptoms:
~Everything needs to be perfect
~One thing messes it all up!
~"If I don't do it, it doesn't get done"
~Making lists about other lists
~Not feeling appreciated

1. God doesn't ask for our perfection, only for our availability.
~He just wants me
~We are stressed less when available and looking to Him

2. He wants us to cling less to ourselves and our circumstances and more to Him.
~This is because our focus shifts to Him
~Put His word in our hearts - this will show in our lives and attitudes

3. Acknowledging God is in control and we are not makes us stronger.
~There is nothing we can do but lean on His strength
~What is He teaching us in this?
~Trust that God knows this and is with you

This week's message was learned by Sara Horn's one-year experiment, chronicled in her new book, My So-Called Life as a Proverbs 31 Wife.  She learned that she is the thermostat of her family - she (and we) make it comfortable or not. In the week's video lesson she also explains the danger of comparing ourselves to others, and I know I have done that before! All of us have messy closets (lives, stresses, circumstances), and some of us are just better at hiding it than others! Seeing other milso's "have it all together" gets us in this rut... the "super military wife syndrome" or that of the Proverbs 31 wife. There is a real danger in comparing ourselves to others. This week, Sara reminds us that it is not about strength, but it is about learning on God and His priorities. We are to instead to be mindful, and are to give God control and not try to do everything on our own --- not try so hard to be superwoman. Trust that God knows this and is with you! Let go and let God.

To sum it up --
We need to let go and let God - Be mindful of stepping back and letting God have control. We don't have to be perfect, we just have to be available for Him. God gifts us His love - Take it!

What about you? Ever been stuck in this rut, this syndrome? Do you ever feel unappreciated in your efforts to become a Proverbs 31 wife? I know I have! We must learn to stop comparing ourselves to others and to instead handle stress with grace and faith - we are to be avaliable for God and are to lean on His strength!

Ephesians 2:8 - For by grace you are saved through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God.
